Buying as a gift? This page is for the Sony a7 IV and its Sony E mount: lenses from other mounts will not fit it. Lenses were picked by their manufacturer specs, not tested by us.

A portrait lens is about two things: how tightly it frames a face, and how much background blur its widest aperture allows. On the Sony a7 IV's full-frame sensor the classic 85mm view needs a lens marked 85mm.
The Sony a7 IV has in-body stabilisation, so a lens without its own still shoots steady.
